REMI BABALOLA NIGERIAN RED CROSS INITIATIVE
Under the 1960 Nigerian Red Cross Act, the Nigerian Red Cross has established branches
in all 36 states of the Federation, focusing on disaster preparedness and response,
and community based health programmes such as HIV/AIDS, health education, first
aid, motherless babies and abandoned babies homes, blood donor services as well
as water and sanitation. Apart of the aforementioned, the Red Cross creates awareness
for International Humanitarian Law, assist in family tracing, youth development
and a host of other welfare activities.
To buttress the work of the Nigerian Red Cross Society (“Society” or “Red Cross”),
the Honourable Minister of State for Finance, Remi Babalola is partnering with the
Society for the success of the Remi Babalola Nigerian Red Cross Initiative (“The
Initiative”) which is a developmental agenda aimed at providing accessible Red Cross
clinics in identified areas of the country as well as a Red Cross managed vocational
centre in Ibadan, Oyo State. These excellent initiatives have huge potentials of
uplifting the well-being of Nigerians, especially the teaming low-end populace.
For this reason, I partnered with the Nigerian Red Cross and secured requisite funding
to assist victims of disaster, implement health and social welfare programs and
promote humanitarian principles in Nigeria. The clinics will provide services ranging
from emergency interventions during outbreaks of violence and disasters to provision
of first aid and assistance to displaced and vulnerable individuals. Our combined
aim is to reduce human suffering where possible, protect life and dignity in an
independent and impartial manner.
